Complimentary closes are tricky. Whether it’s an important email, casual application or the cover letter for your dream job, the final words say a lot about how you’re approaching the position and your feelings about your future employer.

Some complimentary closes could be inappropriate for the end of your cover letter or formal email, so take the time to think about how you want to polish off your piece of art.

Think about whether your future employer would like to read a cover letter or email ending with a Thanks or Cheers. This approach might seem personable but consider the companies working environment and level of professionalism.

Instead, think about maintaining an eloquent tone to help support your application and overall theme. Finishing your letter with Kind regards, Yours sincerely or a simple, Thank you, will tell the reader you’re capable, professional and considerate.
